• Obsessive Compulsive Disorder- I learned that people with OCD perform rituals because they believe that if they do not do their rituals, disaster will occur. The only treatment that has helped some diagnosed with the disorder is to live their fears and avoid compulsions.

• Posttraumatic Stress Disorder- I learned that PSD is triggered by traumatic events that happen in one’s life that they cannot get over. It commonly leads to suicide and self mutilation. Most people with this disorder cannot maintain a job because they don’t like being around people, and the disorder can make a person seem like they’re on drugs or intoxicated when they are not. Medication helps the effects of PSD but do not get rid of the disorder.

• Dissociative Identity Disorder- I learned that this disorder results in split-personalities. It is triggered by prior events. People come up with multiple personalities that can handle certain life experiences. Their personalities take control of their lives. Sometimes a personality make one mutilate themselves, then the person does not remember what they did when their personality changes.

• Schizophrenia- This disorder causes bizarre delusions and inappropriate behavior. People diagnosed with this disorder hear and see evil voices and images that want to harm themselves and other people. The severity of this disorder differs and often strikes smart or artistic people.

• I learned the most from the obsessive compulsive disorder because I used to tell my mom she had OCD all the time because she constantly cleans. Based on the information I learned about this disorder, she does not have OCD, she just likes to keep a very clean house.

• If a psychologist was able to visit our class, I would ask him or her if there was a way to tell if a person was lying about a disorder that they claimed to have. I would ask about the ratio of people with disorders and people who do not have a disorder, and I would also ask if there were some ethnicities more prone to have a disorder.
